Even within the Liquorice Heaven office we disagree over the best Pontefract cake recipe, so we decided that it makes sense to offer both. Comapred to the Taverners Pontefract cakes, the Haribo version are a bit mellower and have a lovely aroma of molasses.
This version is arguably the original Pontefract cake as we know it today - George Dunhill was the first one to add sugar to the original Pontefract Cake recipe, creating the sweet we know today.
