EU Shipping update

EU Shipping update

The EU has changed import rules and now requires us to both charge the appropriate taxes and duties on their behalf and to pay them to the destination countries tax office. In addition, they’ve added a surcharge per item type per package (and some countries have also added processing fees).

This combined with unclear and conflicting guidance from UK government, Brussels, customs offices, ecommerce partners and shipping partners meant that we almost threw in the towel and ditched exports to the EU.

This is no small undertaking for a business our size and we understand why so many UK based companies have ceased trading with the EU :-(

Trying to unpick and implement the requirements as a small business was beyond hard. After a LOT of work, we’ve been able to implement a solution for the majority of EU countries and also remove frustrating weight limits that previously existed.

We now ship to the following destinations with delivery duties paid (taxes and duties shown at checkout):

  • Austria
  • Bulgaria
  • Cyprus
  • Denmark
  • Estonia
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Luxembourg
  • Malta
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Portugal
  • Slovakia
  • Spain
  • Switzerland
  • Sweden
  • The Republic of Ireland

The shipping rates are higher than we’d like and are uneconomical for single items. They do improve with larger orders though – for most countries, shipping 5kg of liquorice costs less than double what it costs to send 500g!

Unfortunately, we have ceased shipping to other European destinations for the time being but hope to be able to add them as soon as support from shipping partners and improved clarity on import charges allows. Massive apologies to those of you negatively affected by this!
